The ZVO Surface Days in Leipzig in September offer a forum for networking research and practice. This year, SurTec will be focusing on greater efficiency in functional electroplating and solutions for chromium(IV)-free plastic chrome plating. Experts from SurTec will be on site with two presentations on these topics.
Chromium(VI)-free pre-treatment of plastics.
Dr. Sven Neudeck, Team Leader Research and Development Decorative Electroplating at SurTec, will provide insights into the results of field tests on the chromium(VI)-free pretreatment of plastics. He presents a modern process that is completely Cr(VI)-free from pre-treatment to the final layer and meets all regulatory requirements. The focus is on a manganese-based plastic pre-treatment with a new type of catalyst system, which significantly simplifies and shortens the process sequence.
Functionalization of surfaces
In a further presentation, Dr. Christine Rohr, Senior Product Expert Functional Electroplating, will deal with the functionalization of surfaces: The requirements for cathodically protective coatings are undergoing a transformation. Corrosion protection needs to be improved, while at the same time many other requirements such as color, adhesion or mechanical properties need to be met. This presentation will look at the requirements placed on the individual layers of cathodic coatings and how these can be (partially) fulfilled.
Functional and decorative electroplating processes
In addition to the focus topics from the areas of functional and decorative electroplating, SurTec will be presenting proven solutions such as alkaline zinc/nickel processes. In addition, there will be new low-energy passivation processes such as blue passivation. The surface technology specialist will also be showcasing chromium(III)-based processes. These are not only impressive in terms of color and quality, but also due to transparent process costs based on extensive experience.
