The Plastics Center (SKZ) has established a new business unit for defense and security. The goal is to bring together, from an organizational standpoint, the SKZ’s activities related to materials, manufacturing technologies, and safety-critical applications, and to expand collaboration with industry, research institutions, and public agencies.
Eugenie Schlesies has been responsible for establishing and coordinating the new division since July 1, 2026. She brings many years of experience in the defense sector to her new role. The business unit is intended to serve as a point of contact for topics requiring materials expertise and application-oriented development for security-related fields of operation.
Expertise Consolidated
With this new structure, the SKZ is pooling existing expertise in a field that places high demands on reliability, functionality, and manufacturing quality. For plastics engineering and related areas of surface technology, key factors include robust material systems, suitable manufacturing technologies, and the evaluation of applications under safety-critical conditions.
As an industry-oriented research institution, the SKZ is active in various fields of plastics engineering. With this new business division, the organization is now establishing a solid framework to develop projects and contacts in the defense and security sectors in a more targeted manner.
