The background to his conversation with Kai Seppeler is a draft EU law on shutting down the gas network in 2040. "Here I see major problems for our industry in the provision of sufficient green energy," said Kai Seppeler. An alternative to the shutdown, he said, is a different use of the infrastructure with a hydrogen-gas mixture or biogas. A time-limited industrial electricity price could also be a solution that would create real planning security.
Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine was also a topic of the exchange of views. Kai Seppeler pointed out that the Seppeler Group is fully behind the sanctions against Russia and fully supports the primacy of politics. At the same time, however, the politicians must ensure that the gas supply is maintained. This, he said, is the only way to maintain the value chain that forms the basis of the hot-dip galvanizing industry. "During the tour of the galvanizing plant in Lennestadt, I again realized how indispensable hot-dip galvanized steel is for our society," said Dirk Wiese.
