With Bonderite M-AD 2000A, Henkel introduces an additive that redefines aluminum anodizing – delivering greater efficiency, sustainability and cost savings by reducing energy use, speeding up processes and conserving resources.

With Bonderite M-AD 2000A, Henkel is introducing an innovation that fundamentally enhances the anodizing process for aluminum. The new additive allows anodizing baths to run at temperatures of up to 24 degrees Celsius – a clear step forward compared to the conventional 18 to 20 degrees. For manufacturers, this translates into lower cooling requirements, longer bath lifetimes, and consistently high coating quality.

Bonderite M-AD 2000A is designed for companies that anodize aluminum as part of surface finishing or upstream processes. Beyond energy savings, the additive reduces sulfuric acid consumption by around 25 percent, cuts aluminum loss by the same margin, and shortens average process times by 15 percent. At the same time, more stable bath chemistry extends service life by up to 25 percent, reducing the need for disposal and replenishment – a tangible advantage for both cost efficiency and sustainability.

Reducing Energy and Costs in Anodizing Processes

“Our customers are seeking ways to make their production processes more sustainable and cost-effective without compromising quality. Bonderite M-AD 2000A delivers exactly that: an additive that demonstrably saves energy and materials while ensuring reliable results,” explains Darshan Mehta, Business Development Manager Light Metal Treatment at Henkel.

The high performance of the product is reinforced by Qualanod approval, which includes rigorous long-term testing under real-world conditions. Trials in the coastal regions of Hoek van Holland and Genoa confirmed the durability and stability of the coatings. As a result, Bonderite M-AD 2000A is now officially approved for use by all member companies of the international Qualanod network. Initial field trials in industrial settings have further validated the expected benefits – from substantial energy savings to consistently high coating performance.

Following its successful test phase and international certification, the additive is now available in Europe and will be rolled out step by step worldwide. Wherever anodizing is a critical process step, Bonderite M-AD 2000A opens new opportunities for more efficient and sustainable production.
