Polytec detects welding defects

The turnkey systems for tubes and profiles are based on laser triangulation. Welding defects as small as 15 micrometers can thus be detected in real time.

Polytec's triangulation systems feature high resolution and fast acquisition and analysis. The company also offers Xiris cameras for weld monitoring. These allow a clear view of the welding arc during the welding process and at the same time perfectly depict darker background areas such as the weld pool and weld seam. The HDR cameras were developed for weld monitoring in the visible light and infrared range. The cameras enable the analysis of a wide variety of welding processes.

Dr. Dirk Samiec, business unit manager for photonics at Polytec, explains, "The systems from Xiris fit perfectly into our focus on providing high-quality solutions for optical quality control and ideally complement our infrared, hyperspectral and X-ray solutions."
