Using a common Smarttech3D scanner and Polytec's portable photogrammetry kit, point-to-point surveys can be performed without 3D scanning for quality assurance or assembly inspection in the automotive, marine and steel fabrication industries. The simple system consists of a calibration plate, scales, target marks and Smarttech3D Measure software. In addition, only a commercially available camera with flash capability is required.
The software's merging of the scans creates a 3D point map of the object and can already be used for point-to-point surveys. Any number of 3D scans of the object are then aligned using this map and merged into a coordinate system. Both methods are designed according to the VDI/VDE 2634 standard.
