AkzoNobel's Paint Defect Identifier app enables painters to quickly and easily identify the cause of a paint defect. A camera image is compared with a digital image database of the most common paint defects.

Digitalization in the automotive paint industry is advancing. Armin Dürr, Technical Manager DACH at AkzoNobel, emphasizes that the company is constantly thinking of new ways to support customers with digital solutions: "PaintDefectID is the latest digital innovation that complements our digital solutions for paint stores, such as Carbeat, our workflow application tool and the digital color matching application MIXIT. All of this saves our customers time and money and increases customer satisfaction."

AkzoNobel's interactive web application is based on three simple steps for the painter to complete: First, a photo of the defect is taken with the cell phone; in the second step, the image is compared with an image database and the appropriate match is selected; finally, the cause of the painting defect is found and information is provided on how to correct the defect and avoid it in the future. The information found can be downloaded or shared with other people in the company, with local technical representatives or the helpdesk.
