Metalworking: Heraeus shows how light can save energy

Anzeige Drying |

Countless heating processes are necessary before a product is made from a metal part. Some of these processes are solved by infrared heating technology. Used correctly, the necessary energy can be used particularly efficiently.

Whitford Ltd in Cheshire, UK, offers high-performance fluoropolymer coatings and sol-gel non-stick coatings for products such as pots and pans. High temperatures are required to cure these coatings. To avoid the need for expensive hot air ovens in the future, Whitford decided to use infrared technology. Together with Heraeus Noblelight, they tested various IR emitters with different wavelengths. It quickly became apparent that the emitters were a viable alternative for curing and repairing Xylan coatings.

Heraeus Noblelight has worked intensively on the subject of infrared. Experience has clearly shown that switching from a gas-fired oven to an infrared oven means major savings in energy costs and CO2 emissions. Heraeus is also in close contact with an energy consultant. Each individual application is carefully calculated.
