Low-temperature surfactant from Henkel significantly reduces energy consumption in immersion degreasing

Henkel is expanding its portfolio with a low-temperature surfactant for industrial immersion degreasing: Bonderite C-AD 20202 cleans reliably at temperatures as low as 35 to 40 °C and significantly reduces energy consumption.

With Bonderite C-AD 20202, Henkel is closing a gap in the field of immersion degreasing. While low-temperature solutions for spray degreasing are already established, the new surfactant now also allows the bath temperature in the immersion process to be reduced from the usual 60 to 65 °C to around 35 to 40 °C.

Immersion degreasing is indispensable, especially for complex geometries, cavities, and areas that are difficult to access. Since mechanical support is less effective in these areas, chemical performance plays a central role.

Up to 35°C lower process temperature

The reduced bath temperature significantly lowers energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. According to Henkel, a temperature reduction of up to 35 °C is possible. If warm spray stages are upstream, the heating of the immersion degreasing process may be completely eliminated under certain circumstances.

The product is designed as a drop-in solution and replaces existing immersion surfactants – no additional investment in plant technology is necessary. Water break tests confirm complete wetting of the surface and create optimal conditions for subsequent processes such as phosphating or nano-coating.

Combining cost-effectiveness and sustainability

Chemical consumption is roughly the same as for the surfactant used previously, so procurement and storage remain unchanged. Initial applications in the automotive industry and in mechanical and plant engineering show stable cleaning results – even with demanding media such as non-water-miscible deep-drawing oils.
