"The Laser World of Photonics was a complete success again this year. It has once again shown how innovative the photonics industry is. Together with the World of Quantum and automatica, it has provided forward-looking impetus for research and industry," says Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Managing Director of Messe München.
Core topics of the industry
Topics at the Laser World of Photonics included secondary sources, integrated photonics, biophotonics and the use of artificial intelligence. At the same time, the World of Photonics Congress brought together the international research elite for six days, including Nobel Prize winners Prof. Anne L'Huillier and Prof. Ferenc Krausz.
Synergies between photonics, quantum and robotics
The two parallel trade fairs World of Quantum and automatica provided new impetus. "The joint focus of the three trade fairs showed how photonics, quantum technologies and automation complement each other in practice," says Dr. Sven Breitung, Managing Director of the VDMA Working Group Lasers and Laser Systems for Material Processing.
Award winners from photonics research
Europe's largest photonics congress accompanied the trade fair. In addition to the Nobel Prize winners mentioned above, the Herbert Walther Award winners Prof. Michael Fleischhauer and Prof. Christine Silberhorn were among the scientists in attendance. In five specialist conferences with 3,000 scientific presentations and poster sessions, the congress covered all aspects of photonics for six days - from basic research to application-oriented development.
High participation from abroad
A total of 1,398 exhibitors (2023: 1,220) from 41 countries and regions attended the event, with 68% coming from abroad. Around 44,000 visitors from 74 countries and regions (2023: over 40,000) came to the trade fair, with 57% coming from abroad. The top ten visitor countries after Germany were Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, Italy, China, Switzerland, the USA, Japan, Austria, Spain and the Netherlands.
