With a colored version of its Thin Organic Coating (TOC) technology, Henkel is expanding the application possibilities of organic thin films in coil coating. The variant presented for the first time - a golden color in the pilot project - combines the familiar functional properties of the hybrid coating system with additional visual differentiation. TOC combines passivation with organic polymers, which is often used on galvanized or zinc-magnesium-containing metal strips.
The coatings are characterized by integrated corrosion protection, good adhesion, anti-fingering effects and lubricity. With a coating thickness of 1 to 2 micrometers, material and resources can be saved compared to conventional passivations without reducing the protective effect.
Golden pilot variant improves recognizability
While conventional TOC coatings are transparent, Color TOC enables clear visual identification. The golden version of the pilot project was developed for a customer in the construction industry and facilitates brand identification and authenticity checks. The color not only acts as an aesthetic element, but also serves as protection against product counterfeiting.
High-performance corrosion protection is retained
The colored TOC variant also offers a high level of corrosion protection as well as moisture and water resistance. The coatings can be integrated into existing coil coating processes using standard application technologies and enable a uniform surface with stable gloss and color nuance. This makes Color TOC suitable for demanding exterior applications as well as for visually visible components.
Outlook: further colors possible
In addition to the golden pilot color, Henkel has also developed prototypes in other colors - including green, red, blue and brown. These variants can be customized to meet functional requirements and design preferences.
