In the XMANAI project, 15 research partners have developed a platform that supports the transparent use of industrial AI. Even without in-depth knowledge of AI, this platform makes it possible to understand which data and algorithms are relevant for the calculation and how they influence the AI.
Tools for data management
As part of the project, Fraunhofer FOKUS has developed tools for data management - from importing and storing data to the (semi-)automated processing of this data. The overarching goal is to ensure the low-threshold and secure use of existing data.
AI becomes explainable
All project partners were given access to these services via an app and were able to integrate them into industrial production over several months. One of the most important findings is that the platform enables access to AI as well as interaction with on-premise environments through open, standards-based interfaces. XMANAI thus makes "explainable AI" the central reference point for transparent data usage in manufacturing processes. The results of the four-year research project are publicly accessible via the project website ai4manufacturing.eu. They will be used to improve industrial software applications.
European research project
The XMANAI project was funded by the European Commission as part of the Horizon 2020 research program. It is led by the Italian software development company TXT e-solutions. The Digital Public Services (DPS) division of Fraunhofer FOKUS participated as a partner for real-time data management and was the scientific coordinator.
