Föhl launches nanocoating for aluminum alloys

Föhlan is the name of the new thin-film passivation from Föhl. At this year's Euroguss, the specialist for zinc die casting will be presenting other hybrid technologies in addition to the particularly sustainable Föhlan.

Föhl's hybrid technology combines the material properties of zinc and plastic - how will be shown at the Euroguss trade show. Föhl will also be presenting a resource-saving hot runner process in Nuremberg: it is a sprueless process for particularly filigree molds. But the biggest innovation is the planned nano-coating as an alternative to electroplating. This is to be offered in the future for certain aluminum alloys.

With Föhlan, the thin-film passivation for zinc components, the foundry offers a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional electroplating, which is problematic in terms of wastewater. The high-tech process was developed in-house and is also worthwhile from an ecological point of view, as it saves up to 70% energy and 90% coating material compared with conventional electroplating. The chemical-physical process does not require any cauterization during pretreatment, does not produce any wastewater, does not require any permits, and does not require any accident regulations. In addition, Föhlan scores with its high corrosion resistance and a very low coating thickness of around two micrometers. The process is in the test phase for aluminum alloys.
