Evonik produces specialty acrylates at its Darmstadt site. As part of the Coating & Adhesive Resins Business Line's sustainability strategy, the decision was made to cover all of the electricity required for production with renewable energy. The supply of electricity from renewable energy sources is ensured via green electricity certificates and special supply contracts known as Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
Building block of sustainable production
The project to introduce green electricity in production is another building block in the more sustainable production of specialty acrylates. For many years now, Evonik has been sourcing the water vapor required for production from a local waste-to-energy plant. In this way, the waste heat generated in the plant can be used to create added value.
Specialty acrylates for many applications
The Degacryl specialty acrylates produced in Darmstadt are used in a wide range of applications. As a raw material for heat-sealing lacquers, they are used in the packaging industry for dairy products, among other things. They are also used in medicine, for example in dental prostheses or in adhesive applications.
