From February 27 to February 28, 2024, an EFDS workshop on medical coatings will take place in Tuttlingen. The event "Implants - When the answer is in the coating" will focus on the different implant variants and their surfaces. The workshop offers a platform for experts to discuss these and other trends. Surfaces and coatings are behind many medical technology trends. In short: it's all about surface conditioning, materials and materials. Rapid developments are still taking place to influence the biocompatibility of materials.
New manufacturing processes and modern composite materials in connection with coating technologies as well as the functionalization of surfaces have continued to fuel the field in recent years. In addition to the modification of metallic and ceramic surfaces, organic materials, especially polymers, can also be specifically adapted in terms of their degradation and cross-linking through hydrophilization or hydrophobization. Antimicrobial properties are also being sought, as is a coating with biogenic, organic components to increase biocompatibility.
