Everyone is talking about hydrogen as an energy carrier. The Research Association for Welding and Allied Processes (Forschungsvereinigung Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren e. V.) of DVS, in short DVS Forschung, has also dealt with this topic with regard to its importance for joining technology and commissioned a study. The study "Joining technology for the hydrogen economy - materials, welding technologies, perspectives" has now been published and provides an overview of the current need for research.
What are the requirements for joining technology in connection with the production, storage, transport and use of hydrogen? Which specific materials and welding technologies are relevant? The study deals with these questions, as well as with the effects of the new challenges on areas such as welding technology training and regulations. A separate chapter is also devoted to the question of the role of additive manufacturing.
