The partners Dürr, Cellforce and LiCAP are intensifying their partnership for battery cell production. Battery cell production based on wet coating is to be replaced by sustainable dry electrode coating.

Dürr Systems AG and LiCAP Technologies Inc. are working together to improve battery cell production, which is currently based on wet coating, with sustainable Activated Dry Electrode technology. The partnership has now been expanded to include Cellforce Group GmbH, marking the next step in the development of dry electrode coating.

Acquisition of Ingecal

Dürr had already announced its partnership with the US coating expert LiCAP Technologies last year - at the same time as the acquisition of Ingecal. This French mechanical engineering company develops calendering systems for the dry and wet coating of electrode foils. The takeover underlines Dürr's intention to also offer solutions for dry coating in the future.

Cellforce manufactures for Porsche

The new partner Cellforce is a subsidiary of sports car manufacturer Porsche and will integrate LiCAP's patented Activated Dry Electrode technology into the Cellforce battery production line. The dry coating of electrodes is to be carried out on an industrial scale in future.

Sustainable approach

LiCAP's Activated Dry Electrode technology, which has already been licensed by Cellforce, does not require toxic solvents or energy-intensive drying ovens. This significantly reduces energy consumption and process time and cutsCO2 emissions by around one tonne for every 10 kilowatt hours of electrode capacity produced.
