Dry claw vacuum pumps for a long service life

Clean processes are particularly important in vacuum technology. With this in mind, one manufacturer has developed a new series of claw vacuum pumps.

The dry, oil-free claw pumps DZS 600 VSD+ and DZS 1200 are powerful, energy-efficient and easy to control and maintain, according to a press release from manufacturer Atlas Copco. Typical areas of application are CNC milling machines, pneumatic conveyor systems and central vacuum systems, for example in hospitals. There, the oil-free, air-cooled claw vacuum pumps work reliably over a long service life.

Simple design makes claw vacuum pumps robust

"The DZS VSD+ have a simple and modular design," explains Ahmed Elshaffie, the responsible product manager. They consist of the pump and gear chambers, which are separated by seals. Their energy-efficient, low-wear operation is based on the special Peekcoat coating of the wetted parts and rotors as well as on their simple operating principle. Two claws rotate contactlessly in opposite directions in the pump housing. This draws air into the pump chamber, compresses it and expels it again under pressure.

In the gear chamber, two gear wheels synchronize the rotation of the claws. The non-return valve in the inlet flange prevents air from flowing back into the vacuum chamber when the pump is switched off. The pumps are driven by a flange-mounted motor via a coupling.

The smaller DZS 600 VSD+ model offers a maximum air volume flow of 600 m³/h, while the larger DZS 1200 VSD+ model achieves 1140 m³/h. The rated motor output is 11 or 22 kW. Both claw vacuum pumps achieve a permanent ultimate vacuum of 200 mbar.

Claw vacuum pumps take up very little space

With their integrated VSD+ inverter drive with pressure setpoint control, the vacuum pumps can be operated at high rotor speeds. The motor speed adapts to the process load, which makes operation more energy-efficient. "The DZS 600 VSD+ and DZS 1200 VSD+ models can be operated continuously at ultimate vacuum without overheating," adds Elshaffie. They can also be used variably because the pumps take up very little installation space in rough vacuum applications: The smaller model comes to dimensions of 586 × 969 × 1362 mm³ (W × H × L), the larger one to 680 × 1284 × 1460 mm³.

To prevent overheating in the ultimate vacuum over a long operating time, both units have a vacuum relief valve. The inlet non-return valve also isolates the vacuum pumps from the process when they are switched off. The silencer reduces the noise level of the devices in the working environment: Atlas Copco specifies a noise level of up to 78 dB(A) for the smaller pump and up to 85 dB(A) for the larger pump.

App supports commissioning and monitoring

With the Atlas Copco VSD+ app, users can control and monitor the vacuum pumps via their smartphone. The app also makes commissioning easier by setting the target pressure, start/stop delay and stop level. To do this, the user must start the pump, connect the VSD+ app via Bluetooth and enter the desired parameters.
