The draft standard E DIN EN ISO 27874/A1 on electroplated gold and gold alloy coatings was published on November 2026. Comments may be submitted through December 9, 2026.

With a publication date of November 2026, the draft standard E DIN EN ISO 27874/A1 “Metallic and other inorganic coatings—Electrolytic gold and gold alloy coatings for electrical, electronic, and technical purposes—Requirements and test methods – Amendment 1 (ISO 27874:2008/DAM 1:2026); German and English versions EN ISO 27874:2008/prA1:2026.” The deadline for comments is December 9, 2026.

Requirements and test methods

This document specifies the requirements for electroplated gold and gold alloy coatings on metallic and non-metallic substrates for electrical, electronic, and other technical applications. It also describes test methods for determining the properties of these coatings.

It does not specify the nature, finish, or roughness of the base material prior to electrolytic deposition. At the same time, it is noted that the appearance and suitability of electroplated gold and gold alloy coatings depend on the nature of the base material. Therefore, it is essential that the purchaser specify the finish and roughness of the base material to confirm the product requirements.

Scope and Reference

This draft does not apply to threaded fasteners; for these, reference is made to ISO 4042. Coatings on sheet metal and strips in their unmachined form are also excluded.

The responsible national standards body is Working Committee NA 062-02-105 AA Chemical and Electrochemical Coatings within the DIN Standards Committee for Materials Testing (NMP). The document is available from DIN Media GmbH, 10772 Berlin. Comments on the draft standard may be submitted via the draft standard portal until December 9, 2026.
