DIN EN ISO 2081:2026 is the updated standard for chromium(VI)-treated galvanic zinc coatings on iron and steel, with adjustments for practical application in the surface treatment industry.

In February 2026, a new version of DIN EN ISO 2081 "Metallic and other inorganic coatings – Electroplated coatings on iron and steel treated with chromium(VI) solutions using zinc" was published.

The standard replaces the previous editions DIN EN ISO 2081:2018-07 and DIN EN ISO 2081:2024-10 and is of central importance for companies in the electroplating industry.

Important changes at a glance

Compared to the 2018 version, the following adjustments, among others, have been made:

  • Change of title,

  • Addition to Table 2

  • Deletion of references to Cr(III) passivation (now regulated in DIN EN ISO 19598),

  • Updating of sampling requirements in line with industrial practice.

The new standard is available from DIN Media GmbH and provides clarity for the specification and quality assurance of zinc coatings in the surface treatment industry.
