Digital from project planning to maintenance

Anzeige Painting and Coating |

A fully automated painting plant in Neustadt an der Donau coats plastic components for automotive. Simulation techniques were used during project planning to eliminate future bottlenecks. A large number of smart sensors were installed for predictive maintenance and subsequent process improvements.

An automotive supplier that manufactures plastic parts as well as highly integrated modules for the automotive industry in large-scale production invested in a new paint shop. It was to include the areas of pretreatment, water dryer, scarfing booth, primer booth, basecoat booth, clearcoat booth, clearcoat dryer, paint supply with high-runner systems, and piggable special paint systems, while operating transparently, highly efficiently, and fully automatically, including conveyor system and lifting and lowering stations - in short, a plant that meets 100 percent Industry 4.0 criteria.

An analysis of the overall energy requirements showed that a solvent-based coating system is the better solution in terms of energy, as the additional dryers and cooling zones of a water-based coating system would unnecessarily drive up energy requirements.
