Chemetall GmbH has switched its production facility in Langelsheim, Germany, completely to renewable electricity. This step is another milestone on the way to Chemetall's goal of using 80% renewable electricity at all sites by 2025.
Conversion at five production sites
The renewable electricity provided by BASF Renewable Energy comes from a combination of solar and wind power and is expected to result in a reduction of approximately 620 tons of CO2 emissions in 2025. Following the introduction of photovoltaic systems at the sites in Boksburg, South Africa, in Cayirova, Turkey, in Querétaro, Mexico, and the use of 100% renewable electricity at the production site in Blackman Township, Jackson County, USA, the production site in Langelsheim is now also following with a complete switch to renewable energy.
High sustainability targets
Through virtual power purchase agreements (vPPAs) with BASF Renewable Energy, Chemetall purchases approximately 2,000 MWh annually generated from renewable resources, including solar and wind energy. This leads to a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions and represents an important next step for Chemetall towards achieving its sustainability goals. "Sustainability is an important priority at Chemetall. That is why we have set ourselves the ambitious goal of using 80% renewable electricity at all our sites worldwide by 2025. Our customers in the aviation industry in particular will benefit from this initiative in Langelsheim, as it is one of our main production sites for the manufacture of aviation sealants," says Frank Naber, Senior Vice President of Chemetall.
Langelsheim: Chemetall's third largest production site
With around 230 employees, Langelsheim is the largest production site in the Europe, Middle East, Africa and South America region and the third largest Chemetall production site worldwide. It is one of the main production sites for technologies for the aviation industry such as Chemetall's Naftoseal aircraft sealants. In addition to sealants for the aviation industry, Chemetall produces corrosion inhibitors, cleaning products and other solutions for metal surface treatment in Langelsheim.
