BYK has appointed Dr. Michael Schmidt as its new global Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Dr. Schmidt brings with him extensive experience in research and development, production and technology as well as in various commercial functions.
Advisory professorship in China
His career is also impressive. After completing his doctorate in polymer science, he began his professional career at Bayer AG in 2001. In 2021, he was awarded an advisory professorship at Donghua University in Shanghai, China. After holding management positions in Germany and abroad, he joined Covestro in 2023 as Head of Innovation for the thermoplastic polyurethanes business unit.
Driving digital transformation forward
In his new role, Dr. Michael Schmidt heads up BYK's research and development activities. One focus of his work is on the development of additives, but above all on sustainable product and process innovations. Another goal is to drive forward the digital transformation in research and development as well as the translation of regulatory requirements into products.
