"As a versatile energy carrier, hydrogen plays a key role on the road to climate neutrality. For us, hydrogen-powered vehicles are the ideal technology to meaningfully complement battery-electric vehicles and complete electromobility," said Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG. "By starting production of a small series of fuel cells, we are demonstrating the maturity of this type of drive and underlining its potential for the future."
Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development, added: "Through our many years of research and development work, we have made hydrogen technology comprehensively accessible. With the second generation of the fuel cell in the BMW iX5 Hydrogen, we have more than doubled the fuel cell's continuous power output, while greatly reducing its weight and size."
