The shades of 2023 are Fée Dragée, Oyster Mushroom and Under Leaves. The Hamburg-based coatings manufacturer is observing a growing yearning for lightheartedness. It influences the color preference for soft nuances.

Every year, the in-house design department of the Hamburg-based paint manufacturer Mankiewicz takes a close look at social trends and influences and translates them into three color shades. In 2022, numerous crises determined the basic moods in society. Many people are convinced that they are facing a difficult future. The longing for light-heartedness is correspondingly great. Feel-good colors are therefore preferred. Instead of clear, bright tones, soft nuances are found. But the colors of nature are also popular: green, sand and earth tones have a stabilizing, reliable and calming effect.

Mankiewicz picks up on these connections with its colors of the year: "Fée-Dragée" was chosen. The mild pink is reminiscent of soap bubbles, petals and the sky at dawn. On the surface, it radiates softness, charm and friendliness. "Oyster Mushroom" is a neutral, slightly grayish brown shade that can also be found in snail shells, tree bark and animal fur. The slightly irregular hue is created by a "multicolor effect." The resulting surface radiates softness and closeness to nature. "Under Leaves" is located on the color scale between mild, grayish sage and petrol tones.
