Experts from the packaging and decor printing industry accepted the invitation from Adphos and ERA (European Rotogravure Association) to the workshop "Drying Technologies and New Electrothermal Drying Solutions".

In various sessions, the participants learned about current drying technologies. The systems commonly available on the market today were compared with each other and evaluated as examples for different applications. The workshop participants were particularly interested in the differences in performance between the systems.

aNIR drying configurations in use

A highlight of the event was the tour of the Adphos premises, which presented the diversity of aNIR drying configurations using three different application demonstrations. The first application showed how aNIR technology can be used to dry textiles. The second application demonstrated the cross-linking of a 2K barrier coating on aluminum substrate at a temperature of up to 230°C and a dwell time of 0.9 seconds.

Also suitable for inkjet printing

The third application showed that color inkjet printing can be dried easily with aNIR technology without overheating the substrate. Here, a Y and a K inkjet ink were simultaneously applied to paper and dried at a process speed of 60 m/min. The substrate itself maintained a temperature below 50°C.
