The paint manufacturer Adler has put a new wastewater treatment plant into operation at its factory in Schwaz (Tyrol). It is part of the company's own environmental protection and recycling center (URZ), in which central environmental processes such as container cleaning, separation of recyclable materials and exhaust air treatment are bundled.
The plant treats all waste water from paint development, production and cleaning processes. The background to the investment is the increasing proportion of water-based paint systems and growing production volumes, which meant that the previous capacities were likely to be exhausted.
More efficiency and less use of resources
The new wastewater treatment system is more efficient and also improves the quality of treatment. Paint components are removed in multi-stage chemical and physical processes. According to the company, this reduces disposal volumes, the use of process chemicals and fresh water requirements. Some of the purified water is reused internally.
The plant is fully digitalized and can be operated with computer support. Adler invested around 1.6 million euros in the project, which was implemented during ongoing operations.
