ABB Robotics has collaborated with artists to create the world's first robot-painted art car. ABB's award-winning PixelPaint technology has perfectly recreated the vibrant designs of Advait Kolarkar from India and the three-color geometric motifs of design collective Illusorr - all without human involvement in the painting process. ABB's PixelPaint technology is the answer to a growing demand for sustainably produced and personalized vehicles in the automotive industry, especially in the area of more customized body painting.
ABB's IRB 5500 painting robots are equipped with 1,000 nozzles in the paint applicator and took less than 30 minutes to complete the complex artwork. Even the smallest details were precisely replicated. Sami Atiya, head of ABB's Robotics & Manufacturing Automation business unit, says: "The technology is an outstanding example of how robotics and automation, along with our RobotStudio software, can not only enable more sustainable production, but also replicate intricate works of art."
