New flexible atomizers

The previously available Topfinish Bell 1S and Topfinish RobotBell 1 products from Wagner are equally well suited as all-round devices for water-based and solvent-based coatings. Both models are now available as variants with external charge with the name suffix ECH (external charge). They have been specially developed for demanding coatings with water-based paints, where a particularly high coating quality is required. The external charge of the coating material is decisive here: the high voltage emitted via the electrode ring ionizes the ambient air in such a way that the sprayed material is charged. The grounded workpiece is electrostatically coated.

Compared to internal charging, external charging has the advantage that the overall system does not have to be isolated for use with waterborne coatings to enable a safe coating process. Plant costs for waterborne coating applications are thus significantly reduced. According to Wagner, the two models can handle even higher viscosity materials well. Thanks to the modular concept, they can also be converted to an internally charged version for use with solvent-based coatings in just a few minutes, without having to modify the complete design of the overall system. With the expanded range of high-speed rotary atomizers, Wagner is responding to the increasing demand for automated wet paint applications with different agitation techniques.

For robots and reciprocators

The Topfinish RobotBell 1 ECH is mounted on a robot arm, while the Topfinish Bell 1S ECH is specially designed for use with reciprocators and linear axes. The proven RBC 1E control system is available for both versions. This enables, for example, the switching of all parameters relevant for the high-speed rotary atomizers, including high voltage and speed, as well as the control of the valves and all functions required for safety. Just like the already proven versions with internal charging, the new versions also allow large spray pattern variations (70 - 800 mm) through different bell plate sizes and adjustable steering gaps, which can be adapted to the respective workpiece geometry and the material used. An internal and external rinsing device of the bell disk, as well as the direct disposal of excess material via a drain valve, ensure short color change times - for fast cycle times in highly automated coating. Manual rinsing is thus not required. Depending on the material, discharge rate and workpiece, an application efficiency of over 80 percent can be achieved with the very fine atomization.

Compressed air consumption is particularly low with all Wagner high-rotation atomizers. An exhaust air concept that diverts the exhaust air to the rear additionally optimizes the coating result. The coating materials that can be processed include 1K/2K solvent and water-based coatings, UV coating, sol-gel and micro anti-corrosion coating. Wagner uses the same basic components for all high-rotation atomizers, for example in the turbine or bell disks and the flexibly replaceable valve blocks. The spare and wear parts are also identical. The simple operation, robust technology and durable stainless steel components reduce the effort required for assembly and maintenance and thus also the operating costs.
