A large-capacity booth divided into several painting zones with intelligently controlled air ducts allows the Upper Austrian steel manufacturer M-Tron to paint and dry simultaneously and flexibly, as well as achieving a better energy balance. The Eham joinery was also able to sustainably improve processes with the concept.

Small and large components as well as individual special designs - the widely varying dimensions and quantities produced at M-Tron in Bad Leonfelden in Upper Austria required a sophisticated painting and drying concept. The air technology specialist Scheuch Ligno therefore developed a flexibly designed system concept for the customer for the different coating material dimensions, with which a large number of usage variants can be realized. The material transport to the plant is also flexible: The material can be delivered directly from a truck trailer or from the adjacent production facility by means of a small parts cart to the painting plant.

"For our new property protection business line, we produce bomb-, bullet- and burglar-resistant doors, windows and glazing. These have to be manufactured 100 percent in-house. For this reason, and also because of the increased quantities, we needed our own paint shop," explains M-Tron Managing Director Bernhard Löffler. "We then immediately built so large that we can paint everything ourselves, right down to the largest steel component. We chose Scheuch Ligno because it's a well-known name and you know you're getting quality."

M-Tron's most important requirement was the flexibility of the line. "Since we cover a very broad spectrum, the painting system should be as flexible as possible. And it should also be expandable at any time," emphasizes Löffler. "The plant has now been in operation since September 2021. We are very satisfied. It is an impressive plant. It works flawlessly from a technical point of view and has also become very beautiful with its Industrial White style.

New system for Eham with very effective heat recovery

A spray room with underfloor extraction, a sanding room with two independent sanding stations, a drying room extraction system, as well as a paint storage and preparation room - Scheuch Ligno built a completely new surface finishing plant together with the Eham joinery from Hausham. In the spray room, Scheuch Ligno set up an exhaust and supply air system that ensures heat recovery of around 70 percent. The air volume can be variably controlled via a frequency converter. Multi-stage filtration technology ensures particularly low emissions. In the grinding room, also with underfloor extraction, a vacuum cleaner solution for hand-held tools has also been integrated. In the grinding room, too, a two-stage filtration system ensures the lowest possible dust levels.

The walls and ceilings of the booths were completely clad with sandwich panels. The smooth finish of these panels greatly reduces dust deposits - an essential factor for a perfect surface. In addition, this finish gives the plant a visually clean appearance. The built-in LED lights are also state-of-the-art. They guarantee maximum energy efficiency and a long service life. Automatic sliding glass doors facilitate the transport of workpieces and thus also ensure cost-efficient workflows. Settings are controlled via a touch panel on the control cabinet, which was programmed by Scheuch Ligno.

Intelligent extraction system

Due to increased custom and one-off production, the proportion of manual coating of wood and metal is increasing - both in the commercial and industrial sectors. The overspray from water-soluble or solvent-based paint that is produced during the coating process must be separated in the interest of low workplace and environmental pollution. Keeping production areas clean of paint mist improves the quality of products by ensuring uniform and dust-free surfaces, accelerates the flow of materials, and thus increases throughput. Damage events such as explosions caused by solvent vapors can also be avoided. As a solution for keeping production areas clean during surface coating, Scheuch has the Selas-Plus extraction system based on a construction box system in its range.
