Dürr: Large variety of colours in small quantities

Abstract

In industrial automotive painting, paint supply systems for special colours with low production rates are more economical and sustainable than ring lines. They can significantly reduce paint losses, waste volumes and rinsing agent consumption.

The number of colours that an automobile manufacturer must have in its portfolio today in order to meet the desire for individuality of its customers is enormous. This multitude of colours can be applied more sustainably and more economically with special colour supply systems than with conventional ring lines. For colours that are only rarely used, such long lines are not very economical. This is because liquid paints must be kept in constant motion so that the colour pigments do not settle. However, the mechanical forces during circulation cause shearing, which has a negative impact on the properties of the paint. Infrequently used paints, where fresh material is hardly ever replenished, quickly reach a critical range, which can have a negative impact on the coating quality.

Special paint supply systems, on the other hand, store the paint colours required for application in air-conditioned paint mixing rooms and make them available to the painting robot shortly before a car body enters the painting booth. Here, quality is not affected by shearing, so paint losses are minimised. Piggable systems for special paint supply quickly pay for themselves through the almost complete recovery of the unused paint. The modular special-purpose ink supply systems, which are suitable for applying both water-based and solvent-based paints, are available in different versions. The fast colour changes of the spot colour supply systems also increase the efficiency of the painting process.
