
A large-capacity paint booth with two zones was installed at an Austrian bulk materials technology specialist. The zones can be separated for modular painting of different colors in one batch, or combined into one zone to operate as a large-capacity painting booth.
KG, based in Ried in Upper Austria, is considered a force to be reckoned with in the field of bulk material handling systems and implements customer-specific and customized concepts from planning to installation. On request, the company supplies individual components for conveying and processing a wide variety of bulk materials, but also complex and turnkey complete plants. When it came to modernizing the aging paint shop, Knoblinger contacted Scheuch Ligno GmbH, with whom they had been working for many years. Scheuch then developed the ventilation system for painting and drying as well as the mixing and paint storage ventilation and supported Knoblinger from the preliminary project planning to implementation. "Our old paint shop was no longer state of the art. That's why we opted for this two-zone painting system from Scheuch Ligno, with which we can now paint our parts much more flexibly and also dry them. We paint all the individual parts we need for our conveyor systems in this system," explains company owner Alfred Knoblinger. "Among other things, the support with the official submission procedure was very helpful for us, as we don't have the know-how here ourselves," emphasizes Alfred Knoblinger. All the specifications of the authorities regarding sound insulation and emissions were clarified by Scheuch Ligno in advance and implemented accordingly during the construction of the plant. Thanks to decades of experience in air technology, Scheuch Ligno was able to install a filter system at Knoblinger that was optimized for the company's requirements. Since commissioning, the operation of the system has been monitored. The first set of filters in the floor pit only had to be replaced after eleven months, despite fully utilized single-shift production operation. The filter system is continuously being improved through additional measures and adjustments. Two heavy-duty cranes have also been integrated into the painting system to facilitate processing of the parts, which at the same time brings savings in forklift capacity. Knoblinger and Scheuch Ligno have a long-standing working relationship, and the two companies support each other in the design of complete systems for their respective customers. "We have been working with Scheuch for more than 30 years. In recent years, this cooperation has become even more extensive. We have a very good relationship of trust with each other," says Alfred Knoblinger.
Effective volume flow control
Additional functions enable painting or drying of large components across the entire paint booth. In addition to its flexibility, the system features energy-efficient air management. An energy recovery system ensures that heat energy from the exhaust air is transferred back to the cold fresh air. The combination with an energy-saving circuit that monitors the material flow minimizes energy consumption at low utilization rates. Another aspect is a special volume flow control that prevents the converted air volumes in the painting zones from becoming unbalanced due to different loading of the individual filter elements during operation. Without this, it is more common for an unbalanced air balance to prevail in the booth system, causing carryover into adjacent work areas. The design of Scheuch Ligno's "automatic airflow control" combines precise sensor technology and intelligent control in such a way that the volume flows remain in equilibrium until the end of the life of each filter set and optimum utilization of the service life is possible. In the work area as well as outdoors, it was even possible to fall below the strict noise protection requirements at the emission points for exhaust air and the fresh air intake. The work of the painters also benefits from the low-noise ventilation system.

Vacuuming overspray in a modular system
Due to increased custom and one-off production, the proportion of manual coating of wood and metal is increasing - both in the commercial and industrial sectors. The overspray from water-soluble or solvent-based paint produced during coating must be extracted in the interest of low workplace and environmental pollution. As a solution for keeping production areas clean during surface coating, Scheuch Ligno has the Selas-Plus extraction system in its product range, which is based on a well thought-out modular system. Selas-Plus comprises the complete extraction technology for the surface coating areas of spraying, drying and sanding. Scheuch Ligno is flexible in the design of the system. The system enables savings in operating costs through heat recovery, recirculating air operation during drying and the use of efficient fans. With floor extraction, the work area can be fully utilized. Uniform, vertical extraction via extraction ducts distributed throughout the floor area supports the achievement of high-quality coating results. Flexible surface treatment of different workpieces is possible from all sides. For spraying, the spray stand extraction system is used in addition to the floor extraction system. For higher quality requirements, but also due to the increasing use of water-based coatings, drying in a separate room is necessary. Temperature, air volume, recirculation rate and operating mode can be precisely adjusted to the paint properties. The Selas Plus system also allows a zone to be set up in the spray room for drying. Part of the supply or exhaust air is used during painting to evaporate the freshly painted parts in the parking area.
