Abstract

When companies want to optimize manual mechanical machining processes, the uncertainties and effort involved in the changeover can be considerable. Digital tools make it much easier to plan automated machining.

Many companies are not so much faced with the question of whether it makes sense to automate a manual processing step, but rather whether and how it can be solved for their specific requirements. However, the measuring tools commonly used for planning up to now, such as laser measuring devices, yardsticks or measuring tapes, only ever depict a partial area, meaning that crucial details may be missing. With 3D laser scanning, a high-precision digital image of the entire environment is created in just one appointment, which can be integrated and further processed in all common 3D programs.
