DFO: A good foundation counts

Coated cast steel components are primed directly after casting using an immersion process known as foundry priming. This serves to protect the highly active bare metal surface from flash rust while they are being transported or stored until further processing. The DFO dealt with a case in which cast components were assembled from individual parts and given a blue top coat at a coater. Soon after, the coating delaminated over a large area in several places. Underneath the detached coating, either a blue or a black background was visible in various areas - which was most likely caused by different foundry primers.
