Cleaning differentials with light

A mechanical engineering company from Ravensburg is developing a laser cleaning system for cleaning rotationally symmetrical components for an automotive manufacturer. Laser cleaning reduces the risk of corrosion. He adapts the system exactly to the end customer's range of components.
The fully automated cleaning system from Maschinenfabrik Arnold consists of several individual processes. It can be seamlessly integrated into the assembly area of the customer's production. The core process of the system is the laser welding of a differential housing and a ring gear with an alloy ring as filler material. According to the manufacturer, this process is unique in Germany. Upstream processes such as laser cleaning and joining, as well as quality assurance processes such as brushing and ultrasonic inspection of the weld seam, round off the overall concept of the plant.
The laser cleaning system was customized by Arnold GmbH to suit the end customer's range of components. A pulsed fiber laser is used as the beam source. Due to the high pulse frequency, contaminated surfaces or conversion layers (for example phosphate layers) can be removed economically and environmentally friendly. The system can be loaded manually or automatically. Both joining partners are placed on a component-specific fixture. The feed rate and thus the processing speed is controlled by means of an NC-controlled rotary axis. An extraction system close to the process filters the removed material and keeps the system clean.
