A total of 4,075 small and medium-sized enterprises as well as banks and municipalities were nominated for the competition nationwide for the 2023 competition year, of which 485 reached the jury list. The family-owned company Weicon was nominated for the award by the Münster Economic Development Agency. The award as a "finalist" was accepted on Saturday by 18 entrepreneurs*, among them the Münster-based company Weicon. The board members of the Oskar Patzelt Foundation, Dr. Helfried Schmidt and Petra Tröger, presented the "prize winner statue" to eleven companies from the six competition regions.
"Normally, companies are nominated over several years and receive an award if they develop positively. We were recognized as a finalist right from our first nomination," said Ann-Katrin Weidling, managing director of Weicon. The companies are judged on the criteria of overall development, creation/securing of jobs and apprenticeships, modernization and innovation, commitment to the region, and service and customer proximity. Only companies that demonstrate outstanding performance in all categories receive awards.
