Pfeiffer Vacuum+Fab Solutions, based in Asslar, Germany, has reached another milestone on its path to sustainability, according to its own announcement. With the confirmation of its science-based emission reduction targets, Pfeiffer is now listed on the SBTi website as a company aiming for a net-zero target in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement. This means that Pfeiffer is committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.

In addition, Pfeiffer's science-based short and long-term emissions reduction targets have also been validated by the SBTi, according to the statement. This validation confirms Pfeiffer's commitment to the fight against climate change and the company's contribution to a sustainable future.
The SBTi is a global organization for the promotion of climate protection by companies, as Pfeiffer reports. It enables companies to set ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with the latest climate science and the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
Defined targets for reducing emissions
Pfeiffer says it has developed a roadmap for its sustainability journey over the course of two years, which has now been recognized by the SBTi. The targets focus on reducing direct emissions from the operation of the company's facilities (Scope 1 and 2) and indirect emissions from purchased goods or the use of products sold (Scope 3).
The company has set three specific deadlines for achieving these targets: By 2030, Pfeiffer is committed to switching to 100% renewable electricity. By 2034, the company is aiming to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 58.8% and Scope 3 emissions by 35%. By 2050, Pfeiffer has committed to achieving a 96% reduction in Scope 1 greenhouse gas emissions, a 93% reduction in Scope 2 emissions and a 90% reduction in Scope 3 emissions. As an overall target, the company has committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050. As the majority of total greenhouse gas emissions result from the use of Pfeiffer products by customers (Scope 3), the company says that close communication with customers is essential to promote sustainable decisions.

Pfeiffer Vacuum+Fab Solutions has been a member of the Science Based Targets initiative since 2022 and as such supports global efforts to mitigate climate change. By aligning its business practices with the SBTi's science-based targets, the company is reducing its environmental impact and promoting collaboration in its value chain, it says.
