Peter Leibinger replaces Siegfried Russwurm as President of the Federation of German Industries (BDI). In accordance with the association's statutes, Russwurm relinquishes his presidency after two terms of office and becomes one of the Vice Presidents of the BDI.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Trumpf
Peter Leibinger has been Chairman of the Supervisory and Administrative Board of Trumpf since 2023. Previously, as Chief Technology Officer of the group of companies specializing in machine tools and laser technology, he was responsible for research and development, sales, service and the expansion of new business areas.
Active in many other offices
Leibinger is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of SPRIN-D GmbH (Federal Agency for Leap Innovations) and of the Advisory Board of Deutsche Private Equity Investmentgesellschaft mbH. He is involved in numerous political, scientific and cultural committees and heads various church and cultural charitable foundations. He is a member of the Senate of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and the Board of Trustees of the Arbeitskreis evangelischer Unternehmer e.V. (Association of Protestant Entrepreneurs).
More optimism for Germany as a business location
"After four eventful years in the office of BDI President at a very challenging time both economically and politically, I am handing over responsibility to Peter Leibinger at the turn of the year with great confidence," commented Siegfried Russwurm on the election. "I am very much looking forward to this important task," added Peter Leibinger. "I would like to help ensure that we as an industry can regain more optimism for Germany as a business location."
