New hard gold electrolyte from Umicore

Anzeige Corrosion protection | Created by BA

The new product is characterized by reduced gold consumption and optimized layer thickness distribution and can be used in a variety of applications.

With Auruna 523, Umicore presents a weakly acidic hard gold electrolyte (AuNi) that has been developed for technical applications. The process is characterized by a very good layer thickness distribution and is therefore suitable for use in rack, barrel and vibratory plating systems. Auruna 523 provides a uniform and reliable coating, particularly on complex-shaped components.

Hard gold-nickel coating

The hard gold electrolyte has a metal content of up to 12 g/l gold and a deposition rate of 0.1 to 0.8 µm per minute. The gold-nickel coating consists of approximately 99.7 percent gold and 0.3 percent nickel. The resulting layer is shiny, hard and has a maximum layer thickness of up to ten micrometers.

Abrasion-resistant, uniform coating

The coatings produced with this electrolyte are abrasion-resistant. This makes it ideal for electrotechnical connection elements where a consistently low contact resistance is required. Auruna 523 is also used as an intermediate layer under fine gold layers for infrared reflectors, for example in epitaxy ovens.
