By merging the Paint and Final Assembly Systems and Painting Robots divisions, the Dürr Group is simplifying its organization and strengthening its core business. In future, there will only be three divisions: Automotive, Industrial Automation and Woodworking.

Dürr AG is simplifying its Group structure. The company will combine all activities in the areas of painting and final assembly technology. The environmental technology business could possibly be sold. The environmental technology business comprises the exhaust air purification technology and sound insulation systems units of the Clean Technology Systems division.

New automotive division

Dürr will merge the former Paint and Final Assembly Systems and Application Technology divisions, which mainly serve the automotive industry, into the new Automotive division at the beginning of 2025. In future, the Dürr Group will bundle its business activities in three divisions - Automotive, Industrial Automation and Woodworking - instead of five divisions as before. "By merging our automotive activities, we will be in an even better position to develop optimally coordinated complete solutions in painting technology in the future," says Dr. Jochen Weyrauch, CEO of Dürr AG.

Competitiveness and systems expertise

The Automotive division generates sales of around € 2 billion. By merging its automotive activities into one division, Dürr is creating the conditions for more efficient customer support in the automotive industry. This applies in particular to painting technology, by far the Group's largest automotive area. Already today, more than three quarters of the paint shop business are so-called system projects, which are handled jointly by Paint and Final Assembly Systems and Application Technology. The merger underlines Dürr's claim to be a "one-stop store" for turnkey paint and final assembly systems from a single source.

Strategic partnership models

Merging the automotive business will also make order processing more efficient. By bundling the paint technology business, Dürr is strengthening its ability to enter into strategic partnership models with its customers. The company plans and implements coordinated overall solutions and supports the operation of paint shops with services. In view of the long-term transformation requirements of the automotive industry, customer-focused systems expertise is an important competitive factor for Dürr.

Examination of strategic options for the environmental technology business

The environmental technology division Clean Technology Systems, with sales of around € 500 million, has developed into the leading supplier of exhaust air purification technology in recent years. Now the exhaust air purification technology and sound insulation systems areas are to be put in a position to open up new growth paths through additional investments. One of the possible options is therefore a sale of the two divisions. Dürr is one of the leaders in industrial sound insulation systems. In exhaust air purification technology, Dürr is particularly strong in the field of thermal oxidation, i.e. systems for the incineration of pollutants in industrial exhaust air. To date, Dürr has mainly marketed this technology in industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and automotive. In the future, there will be opportunities to use the product range in related fields and markets. In addition, increasing global environmental standards and regulations to reduce emissions will continue to drive the business.

Battery business to be assigned to Industrial Automation

The battery business with technologies for electrode production, which previously belonged to the Clean Technology Systems division, remains the core business and will be assigned to the Industrial Automation division in future. There it will seamlessly complement the existing activities in the areas of sustainable energy generation and storage as well as e-mobility.

Board of Management confirms forecast and mid-cycle targets

The Board of Management of Dürr AG confirms its targets for the current fiscal year with a Group-wide EBIT margin of between 4.5% and 6.0% before extraordinary effects and sales growth of around 2% to 8%. In the medium term, the Dürr Group is sticking to its target of more than € 6 billion in sales by 2030. The mid-cycle targets remain at an EBIT margin of at least 8% before extraordinary effects and an ROCE of 25% or more.
