The idea for the planting campaign arose during an in-house sustainability week at the global market leader for hazardous materials storage in the fall of 2022. The "environmental heroes," a group of trainees and students at Denios, had thought up and implemented various projects. One of them had the goal of planting trees in the Wiehen Mountains. At the end of March, the "environmental heroes" set out to plant the last of a total of 250 trees. Equipped with spades and soil augers, they planted a total of 100 sessile oaks as well as 75 cherries and sweet chestnuts.
"Denios has made an important local and ecological contribution with this planting campaign," said Vincent Kinzel of the "Jetztaufforsten" organization, which supported the campaign. "It's great to see companies taking their responsibility for the environment and actively working to preserve our natural world." For the environmental heroes themselves, their project was also a complete success: "We don't just want to make a short-term difference, we also want to contribute to environmental protection in the long term. The oak trees, for example, can live for many hundreds of years, so in the truest sense of the word we can talk about a sustainable action," says Polina Gorbunova, who is training to become an e-commerce merchant.
