ZVO scholarship holder investigates anodizing effects in recycled aluminum alloys

ZVO scholarship recipient Andreas Winter has successfully completed his master's thesis on the anodization of recycled aluminum casting alloys, gaining important insights into surface technology in the process.

Andreas Winter, master's scholarship holder of the Central Association for Surface Technology (ZVO), has successfully defended his project thesis entitled "Effect of Microstructure on the Anodizing Quality of Recycled Cast Al Alloys" in the Electrochemistry and Electroplating Technology program at the Technical University of Ilmenau. With its scholarship program, the Central Association for Surface Technology has been specifically supporting young talent in surface and electroplating technology for several years and annually awards selected master's students with monthly financial support.

Alloy structure influences anodizing quality

The thesis focused on the influence of the structure and composition of alloying elements on the anodizing behavior of aluminum-silicon cast alloys with typical alloying elements such as iron, manganese, copper, or magnesium. The structure-reactivity relationships obtained provide important insights into the anodic oxidation of recycled aluminum materials.

International supervision in Sweden

The master's thesis was written at the Department of Materials and Manufacturing at Jönköping University in Sweden and was carried out under scientific supervision. The results are particularly important for the application of recycled aluminum alloys in surface technology.
