What a lying drop can reveal

The density and contour of a drop says a lot about the properties of a liquid. A measurement technology provider expands its portfolio with the Constrained Sessile Drop method and shows how test liquids or hot melts can be subjected to rapid purity testing via video analysis.

Constrained Sessile Drop (Constrained SD) is a method for purity testing of contact angle test liquids as well as for measurements of highly heated liquids. In this method, the curvature of the drop surface is analyzed by video. This requires a single, horizontal droplet, which must be large and strongly curved and at the same time absolutely symmetrical. To ensure this, sample platforms are used, which are also offered by Krüss. It is a fast procedure that can be smoothly integrated into daily quality routines. The Constrained Sessile Drop method is suitable for the analysis of melts at high temperatures, for example for hot melts. Under standard conditions, classical mechanical tensiometry is preferable.
