The restart followed around four months of commissioning, testing and maintenance work. With production now underway, the Tioxide and Deltio product ranges are also returning to the market step by step. The site has a nameplate capacity of 150,000 tonnes of TiO₂ pigment per year.
Capacity ramp-up through early 2027
The production ramp-up will take place in several stages. The aim is to restore the plant to full operating capacity by early 2027. The site is supported by the new research and development centre in Wynyard as well as commercial and business support teams in Stockton-on-Tees.
“Today is a landmark moment for Tioxide and a proud achievement for everyone involved in bringing the Greatham facility back into operation,” says Karen Askwith, Managing Director at Tioxide.
TiO₂ pigments for coatings, plastics and inks
Tioxide produces titanium dioxide pigments under the Tioxide and Deltio brands for use in coatings, plastics and inks. The Greatham site has more than 50 years of experience in pigment production.
The restart adds further TiO₂ pigment production capacity to the market. For the coatings industry, this is particularly relevant in terms of raw material availability and supply chains.
