The EU F-Gas Regulation 2024/573 will further restrict fluorinated refrigerants in stages. For operators of industrial plants, this is already having an impact on the availability, costs, and service concepts of existing cooling technology. In production areas with high demands on process stability – such as surface technology and painting processes – thermal management is therefore becoming more important.
Natural refrigerants such as propane (R290) are considered a possible alternative to F-gases. They have a very low global warming potential and are not affected by the phase-down of the regulation. At the same time, they place special demands on system concepts, safety, and integration into existing production environments.
