Serfilco nozzle systems for anodizing aluminum

Serfilco is one of the pioneers when it comes to bath movement by means of nozzle systems. The QUALANOD organization has recognized the advantages of the process and recommends its use.

Serfilco specialized early on in bath agitation using jet systems. Decades ago, company founder Jack Berg was already looking at alternatives to bath agitation with air. His trials with Venturi nozzles were successful. Eventually, Serfilco developed the Serfilco SerDuctor nozzles with specific flow characteristics. After initial hesitation, the bath movement without air initially became established in the electroplating industry. Serfilco nozzle systems are now used in applications such as wastewater neutralization and anodizing processes.

The QUALANOD organization for controlled, quality-assured anodized aluminum provides a recommendation for their use. The specifications for sulfuric acid-based anodizing of aluminum state, "For batch processing, circulation of the electrolyte by conventional pump-over circulation is generally insufficient (...) However, for effective batch processing, hydraulic turbulence can be generated by means of a pumped system with reactor nozzles at the bottom of the tank (...) Hydraulic turbulence (with Serfilco SerDuctor nozzle systems; d. Red.) provide greater agitation than air systems, improving layer uniformity and reducing the possibility of burning. Also, less acid mist develops on the surface of the baths."
