Whether in machines or vehicles, on the road or rail - individual components always join to form a large whole. And to prevent the whole from falling apart, the individual parts are bolted, welded or glued together. The main task of a bolted joint is to ensure that it holds. No matter how shaking and tugging, oil, salt or water may wash around the nuts and bolts, it has to sit tight. To ensure this, the threads of the screw or nut are coated with so-called thread lockers. A chemical locking system from the company Omnitechnik, for example, consists of a paint-like substance containing adhesive and hardener in microcapsules. Only when the screw is tightened do the capsules burst, releasing the adhesive and hardener.
Since the screw manufacturer rarely has the coating know-how for functional coatings, there are service providers like Benseler. The surface specialist from Markgröningen provides screws and nuts with all kinds of corrosion protection and thread locking. It has recently invested in two modern systems and can thus expand its full-service offering: The new machines can be used to coat the threads of particularly large and long screws in the M5 to M14 range in fully automated series production. The pouring and conveying processes during processing are designed to be gentle so that no scratches can occur on the product.
