Precisely defined roughness values that can be reproduced at any time promote the "crimping" of different materials. The process counteracts the infiltration of corrosion by coatings that do not adhere perfectly. Roughening and sweeping are used in the automotive industry, mechanical engineering and medical technology, among others. Partial treatment of workpieces is also possible.
Rough blasting with angular blasting grain
"Our aim is to enlarge and nest the surface as much as possible. We achieve this with an appropriately angular blasting grain," says Marco Heinemann, Managing Director of KST Kugel-Strahltechnik GmbH. The surface specialists determine the optimum roughness value according to customer specifications. A well thought-out combination of blasting media and grain shape, blasting pressure and speed as well as system technology is crucial for implementation.
Sweeping for hot-dip galvanized surfaces
Hot-dip galvanized surfaces require particularly sensitive treatment. Sweeping with low doses of blasting energy is used for them. It promotes the outgassing of the zinc layer and removes impurities, air pockets and corrosion. This creates a duplex surface in accordance with DIN EN ISO 12944-4.
