The agreement to acquire Hermes Schleifmittel GmbH was concluded on September 1. The acquisition is part of Mirka's strategy to further expand its business and product portfolio in precision grinding.
Portfolio in precision grinding further developed
Mirka has been systematically developing its precision grinding portfolio since 2013. At that time, the company set up its own production line for flexible micro-grain abrasives for polishing and lapping applications. This was followed in 2017 by the takeover of Cafro, an Italian manufacturer of superabrasive grinding wheels, and in 2021 by the acquisition of the dressing roll specialist Urma Rolls.
Comprehensive range for demanding applications
With the conventional bonded grinding wheels from Hermes, which round off the existing range of diamond and CBN grinding wheels, the basic portfolio is now complete. "After years of targeted portfolio development, we now have a broad, comprehensive and highly competitive range in the field of precision grinding that can serve even the most demanding applications," says Stefan Sjöberg, CEO of Mirka Ltd.
Conventional bonded abrasives are used in numerous industrial applications - for example in the precision grinding of metal parts and in the manufacture and maintenance of gears, bearings, turbine components and other parts for the energy and aerospace industries.
