Metrohm integrates spectrometer into four-legged robot

For rescue missions and reconnaissance operations: A remote-controlled robot can identify hazardous substances thanks to MIRA XTR DS.

The portable Raman spectrometer MIRA XTR DS and the Autofocus Standoff Attachment (AFSO) from Metrohm can be integrated into the CBRNe robotic system IBEX. This is equipped with environmental sensors and remotely detects hazards and identifies unknowns without humans having to put themselves in danger. MIRA and AFSO's stand-off Raman technology helps: both can identify unknown substances from two meters away. MIRA is capable of identifying more than 20,000 substances, including drugs, or explosives.

The IBEX robotic system transmits detailed information from the danger zone, enabling an immediate assessment of safety risks to humans. Among other things, it has a detector for chemical warfare agents, one for radiological and nuclear substances, and a PID gas monitor.
